When you install or update a plugin, WordPress may show: “Destination directory for file streaming does not exist or is not writable.”

That usually means the temporary folder WordPress wants to write to has the wrong permissions, or does not exist.

## Quick permission check

Using FTP or your host file manager, check the permissions on WordPress temp and related writable folders. Many hosts expect directories around `755`. Avoid wide-open permissions such as `777` unless your host specifically requires them and you understand the risk.

## Use a custom temp directory

If you cannot fix the default temp path, point WordPress at a dedicated folder:

1. Log in with FTP or the host file manager.
2. Create a folder WordPress can write to (permissions at least `755`).
3. Add a line to `wp-config.php` above the “That’s all, stop editing!” line, using the real path to your folder.

Example when the folder sits next to the WordPress root:

```php
define( 'WP_TEMP_DIR', ABSPATH . '../wptemp/' );
```

Adjust the path to match where you created the folder. Then retry the install or update.
