How WP Security Ninja affiliate tracking works with Freemius, plus common link issues and how to apply.

How to join

  1. Apply at /affiliates/#apply (open to anyone with a clear promotion plan).
  2. We review your application (a pending Freemius affiliate is created for approval).
  3. If approved, you get your unique Freemius referral link plus access to marketing material.

Commission: 20% on successful referred purchases.
Payouts: PayPal only, $100 minimum.

How tracking works

Attribution is Freemius-side via your r.freemius.com referral link. There is no separate tracking cookie on wpsecurityninja.com. Freemius records the click when visitors use your affiliate URL, then attributes the purchase at checkout.

Do:

  • Always share your Freemius referral link (from the Freemius affiliate dashboard after approval).
  • Use rel="noopener" only (never noreferrer) on affiliate anchors.
  • Prefer protocol-relative URLs: //r.freemius.com/…

Don’t:

  • Strip query params or wrap the link in a shortener that drops Freemius parameters.
  • Link only to /pricing/ without going through your Freemius referral URL first.

Troubleshooting

Common technical issues (EMPTY_REFERER, rel="noreferrer", protocol mismatches): Known affiliate link issues.
