Early renewals use Freemius proration so you keep the unused value of your current term.
What proration means
If you renew before the term ends, the amount you pay is reduced by the unused part of the current subscription. You do not throw away paid time when you renew early.
How Freemius applies it
- License extension: Early renewal extends the license by 30 days (monthly) or 365 days (annual), matching your billing cycle.
- Proration calculation: Unused time is
remaining_period = (1 - number_of_days_past_from_the_old_plan_last_payment / number_of_days_in_past_billing_cycle). The discount ismax(0, remaining_period x old_plan_last_payment). - Billing date: The billing date resets to the early renewal time. You get the full new term from that point, with credit for what remained on the old term.
Why renew early
- Keep coverage continuous with no gap.
- Use a promotion when one is running.
- Move the renewal date to a more convenient time of year.
